Why is Sulfite in wine?

Sulfites are added to wine as a preservative to prevent oxidation and spoilage. They are a form of sulfur dioxide (SO2), which is a chemical compound that occurs naturally during the fermentation process.

Sulfites are effective at inhibiting the growth of unwanted yeasts and bacteria that can cause wine to spoil or turn to vinegar. They also help preserve the wine's color and flavor, and can aid in clarifying the wine by removing unwanted particles.

In addition to being added to wine during the winemaking process, sulfites can also occur naturally in some foods, such as dried fruit, and are used as a preservative in other food products. However, sulfites can cause allergic reactions in some people, so it is important for wine producers to label their products accordingly and for consumers to be aware of their sensitivity to sulfites.

Watertest systems is based in South West Sydeny,  Australia
